Best Hotels in Tuscany, Italy Part 1: Capanna Suites

Capanna-Suites-Tuscany-Italy

Italy was a big trip for us. Firstly, we had never been to Italy, so we wanted to make sure we experienced the right things during our short, two week stay there. Secondly, I was planning on proposing to my girlfriend while we were in Tuscany, so I secretly wanted to make sure that our first Tuscany Hotel was perfect. Thankfully, the hotel we chose to stay at was not only great, but also, I'd argue, one of the best Hotel in Tuscany. It's called Capanna Suites.

Capanna Suites is located just outside of a hilltop town called Montalcino. The property contains a classic, rustic Italian villa, which houses a number of guest suites, an on-site restaurant, as well as its own vineyards. The first thing you notice about Capanna Suites, however, is the jawdropping, postcard perfect view of the rolling Tuscan hillside.

The one thing on my mind as we travelled from Rome to Tuscany was where exactly I would propose once we arrived at the hotel. When we booked our suite, I wasn't really sure what our outdoor seating area would look like. Sure, I could propose somewhere on the property near the vineyards, but I wanted that moment to be a private experience between my partner and I. When we finally arrived and check into our suite, we were both unbelievably surprised.

Our suite faced directly out towards the big view of the Tuscan countryside. In addition, we actually had not only a patio to sit on, but also an entire front yard, complete with hedges for privacy and a pathway leading to the view. In other words, we had a completely private setting facing one of the most spectacular views we'd seen on any of our trips. The stage was set for the proposal.

As the sun shone across the Tuscan hillside on the day we arrived, I proposed right out front of our suite. She said yes. To celebrate, we purchased a bottle of Pinot Grigio from the on-site restaurant. The wine was actually produced on-site at the villa itself! The staff also gave us an ice bucket for the wine so that we could keep it chilled while we sat on our balcony sipping on it and celebrating.

Later in the evening, we enjoyed dinner at the restaurant's patio which, again, is facing the magnificent view. The food was very authentic Italian cuisine, with a more high-end touch to it (don't expect to come here and have just a margarita pizza!). Needless to say, the food was very delicious and flavourful. The drinks were great as well. I had a negroni, which is a classic Italian cocktail, and my partner had an Aperol Spritz. Both were on par with the quality of the wine and food. To complete our meal, we were able to watch the sun set over the Tuscan hillside.

Now, a lot of this review has centred around the exterior components of the hotel, but let me just say this: the suites themselves are nothing short of spectacular as well. All of the suites have been renovated and feel very modern. They have still managed to keep some of the classic, Tuscan villa charm in them though. The suites were also quite large, and even included a wine fridge containing some of Capanna Suite's wines for purchase. We were even given a Capanna Suites wine opener as a souvenir.

During the day, we often times found ourselves lounging by the hotel's infinity pool that, as you may have already guessed, looks out over the Tuscan hillsides. If you haven't been in an infinity pool that overlooks the countryside, you need to try it out. The hotel also provides a wine tasting experience during the day, if that's what you're into as well.

If you'd like to get out and explore the region, there are also several wineries nearby. The town of Montalcino is also only a 10 minute drive away (you can actually see it perched up on the hill from Capanna Suites). We went there for lunch one day. There's a small little sandwich shop there that was very good. Keep in mind, though, that driving into a hilled town like Montalcino can be a little intimidating, as the roads are very narrow and can be steep. Parking was also hard to come by. If you don't mind a little adventure though, it's well worth the visit.

So, if you're looking to propose to your partner, or you just want an extremely relaxing Tuscan vacation with all of the amenities you could ask for, check out Capanna Suites. The rooms, restaurant, infinity pool, vineyards and view of the Tuscan hillside make it well worth the trip. Trust me, you wont regret it. You can check their hotel out here.
